Brilliant, Helpful, Useful …
inShort is brilliant, helpful, and useful. It has the magical and rare quality found in software that rises above the already honorable level of being an efficacious tool: it returns as much to you as you put into using it well. There is — mentioned by other reviewers — a non-trivial learning curve. A not-insignificant part of its brilliance is that it forces the user into thinking carefully, specifically, and exactingly about _process_. Do you value finding efficency in work? Make an inShort diagram, execute the diagram, and then improve the diagram. Is there _anything you do_ that does not produce the result you think it will? Diagramming it well in inShort will better inform you than anything else I know.
I am an artist. I am involved in many processes, both with physical material (colored mud) and virtual material (information). inShort has helped me:
- document how I do what I do
- rationalize what I do
- refine the processes I use
- create teaching diagrams
- undertake complex projects involving thousands of steps across multiple computer programs
inShort is — IME — the best work-analysis tool available. I found it weird, arcane, intransigent — but in the best way possible. It teaches me how to think about process.
The developer responds to issues and suggestions.
inShort is, to me, worth much more than it costs. I not only recommend it highly, I thank and admire the devoloper for his/her work.
