inShort App Reviews
I suspect I am being a bit thick, but having been a long time professional project manager (international certification to boot) and hands on with projects spanning months/years and millions of dollars I was hoping to build Gantt charts from scratch. I didn’t want or need to have my hand held, etc though all the steps and I really didn’t want to learn a new way of handling projects. I bought this app. to help me in my now retired life run a series of projects relating to my house, its addition and renovation. For me after 10 days of trying to “get” the concept behind this application I have conceded defeat and will build my own, abet limited, Gantt chart using Numbers on my MAC. I think that for those needing in depth guidance, etc this seems to be a reasonable tool if you are willing to step back and build a project or better yet a process in a manner fitting this application’s philosophy.
Ive tried a number of project management tools and I have fround InShort to be useful as a strongly visual method of planning. I like that it meshes with GTD methodology, as I am familiar with this technique. I also like the fact that there is an extensive manual and help pages available. I did find that while the PDF manual provided a good background on project management itself, there were not enough diagrams (specifically screenshots of the app itself) at the very beginning of the manual. I found it a bit difficult to understand the mechanics of adding processes, and what the difference between processes and tasks are, for example. It may be that I am simply not as familiar with project management terminology. I am still in the learning process in order to use this app to its fullest, but it looks very promising.
Nice visual tool for mapping out a process
I like that this app gives the ability to look at the creation of a process with visual tools. It’s easier for my than just using text outlines.
Hey all. This is an excellent program to bang out your software development projects. I have teams around the world and have used complex studio packages to track hours, personnel, gantt workflow – InShort puts it in one place without the grotesque ticket price. I will purchase multiple copies for my team. OmniGraffle was the old tool outside of the studio space… now we will use InShort.
Best diagraming/planning app I’ve ever used by far and I have tried most of the apps for OS X including much more expensive apps. The inShort app is fantastic in many ways, and the value is beyond the price. I received so much more value than I paid for; I owe you a great review. inShort you guys are crushing it. The ability to nest flow chart diagrams is enough to get you into software developer heaven. Any process diagram/task can be embed inside it a separate diagram. So you can see a high-level overview and also drill down to the smallest detail. Its the way diagraming/planning apps should have always been. Lastly, the app is fun to use, even for serious work.
When I moved into the Operations role at my work, I knew I would need something to help me break apart various tasks that we were doing so that I could reimagine them. inShort has been helpful in this respect. I tried various other means like mind mapping, Omnixyz, gantt charts, etc but nothing clicked like inShort did. It took me a while to really get my head around the app. I’m still trying to figure out all the nooks and cranny’s honestly. They have a great help system which I find myself referring to when I need a refresher or to learn how to do something that I’m scratching my head over. Basically, it’s very powerful and has a learning curve but it’s well worth the effort. I would highly recommend this app if you are in need to breaking down a process and clearly seeing the atomic components.
This is an amazingly refreshing way to look at projects, visual them for clients and drill down at different levels of granularity so you can see the big picture but never lose sight of the “devil is in the details” level of planning. I use for my consulting work, for my personal projects, to manage my new small business and even for family planning because I can see the big picture easily and share it with my wife. This software changes everything and at a fraction of the cost of the competitors.
As a consultant in capital project planning and management in the energy industry, I have LONG sought a simple tool that makes project planning intuitive to my clients, especially in a facilitated group setting. inShort is more than “the tool I’ve been looking for”; it is better and more powerful than I could have hoped. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this excited about software!
An Amazing App
It’s hard to explain how great this app is. It is great for process flow diagrams and project plans, and works on Mac and iOS.
Great Product
I have been using OmniPlan but this offers so much more at a better price.
My thought process can be pretty messy sometimes, which comes with it’s share of pluses and minuses. The plus is that I can come up with really abstract and interesting mental models seeing connections that might not be overtly obvious. However, the minus is that it can be extremely challenging to organize them down into a detailed workflow that I can actually execute on or share with others. inShort is pretty much a godsend for me and my messy way of thinking about things. I can easily map out larger things and go into finer detail, which I can then set up steps to actually execute on. The learning curve can be a bit steep, but thats the causality of its deep nature. My advice is stick with it. I’m positive that it can prove to be a useful tool for you and your team.
This application’s documentation isn’t just informative, it’s an incredibly thorough example of how to use the tool itself. I was a bit weary about dropping so much money on a complete unknown, but I’m thoroughly satisfied with what my $37 bought me. This is a powerful application that’s thoroughly implemented and documented. Bravo.
I am using this to build some sales training in a complex sale enviroment. I may never use ALL the features it will work perfectly for what I need. MONEY WELL SPENT. (Download the manual form their webiste)
I totally fall in love with inshort, best diagram planning app ever seem.
Stylish app interface, very helful get start tutorial, plenty of knowlegeable document provided, I am totally satisfied.
No planning tool can get a job done for you. But inShort is an amazing, cost-effective application that will help you see the deficiencies in your project planning and get you on a path to achieving your goals. The authors of inShort have done an great job of preparing the user to create thier own plans that can be see in a project view, Gantt chart or various reports. Simple to use, very powerful, inShort fills a gap in project management software. For the small businessman, professional, homemaker or any one else who doesn’t need an expensive project management solution but still has projects to manage, inShort can help.
I have tried several applications over the years to map out workflows and always felt the diagrams just fell short in so many ways. I am so impressed with this application. It has exceeded my expectations and allows me to visualize my thoughts in ways I hadn’t expected before. I highly recommend going through the included step by step guide to get familiar with all the many features. It is well worth the time to master this tool and allow it to help make your life more productive.
I am a district administrator for a district with over 41,000 students and many thousands of employees. My team has multiple projects going on all at once and they start and stop and at different times. Trying to move the mess of organized chaos to chart paper has been helpful but inShort is a game-changer. If you work on any type of program or project, professional or personal, you should absolutely consider this app. It is quite inexpensive considering its robust nature.
I’m a user experience designer with an engineering background who loves process. So this software holds the potential to resonate with me in multiple ways. inShort is to be commended for many things: reinventing various flowcharting norms in useful ways, an extremely appealing visual aesthetic (its assets, not UI), and a super-handy in-context help system. It does however come up short in several areas: non-standard UI with a bit of a learning curve, awkward UX splattered throughout, wonky undo functionality, limited object customization, no custom objects, limited import/export options, and seemingly non-native English support text. In any case, the developers deserve high praise for their nonconventional thinking that could very well move flowcharting to its next generation. The more unpleasant bits and pieces mentioned above will hopefully be addressed in future releases, allowing me to completely forget about using Visio.
Ive been trying to get control of my project load and inShort looks to be just what Ive been wishing for. The Gantt charts help me figure just whats going to land and when. The UI is clean and well organized. Super job on this app!
This is an app that I really want to learn and use but I’m having trouble. More than anything, after going through the User Guide, I’m still not understanding much of the functionality of the program. I wish there were more real life examples of its uses (even videos.) It crashes often, the undo does not seem to work and iCloud sync has major issues (beta?). Overall I like the concept of the app (especially the nesting) but I’m looking forward to many improvements hopefully soon.
