inShort App Reviews

91 Customer Reviews:

From organizational structure to committe - sub committee task management. It’s a difficult thing to manage large scale projects with volunteers primarily. Often times tasks can only be completed with a handoff to two or more people in order to be completed. So much can be lost in translation from a simple project to become a mountain of desired results and the task is once again out of control. To minimize the frustration and maximize everyones valuable time I use InShort. An organization that is organized is an organization that will succeed. You might thing the price tag is high but for what it is and what you get it is a value worth far more and the return for us is repaid in magnitude.

This app does everything I need from a project manager. I’ve been in the market for a good Gantt charting app, but most of the applications out there are well above my price range for personal use. This app fits the bill, and then some! The Gantt charting capabilities are great, but actually the flow charting unexpectedly took my projects to a whole new level. This is a really well-made and well-thought-out application. And what is most amazing about it, especially now that it’s on sale, is the price. I would expect features like this from a much more expensive app, and inShort is absolutely, wonderfully, affordable. Worth every penny!

I just bought this app, after hearing about their Labor Day sale, given that I was looking for something that could do Gantt charts. I am quite impressed with it so far. The visual style is great. 4 stars and not 5 because the onboarding for new users is slightly below par.

This app has a learing curve, however, once you learn it, this app is very easy and intuitive to use unlike others that i’ve tried, making my work a lot easier. Thanks

Powerful tool for project management

I recently started a new project management job and this product is just the tool I was looking for. Will love having it on OS X and iOS.

I’ve used ProjectLibre as my project app on the Mac so I can cross-run between my MBP and Windows users, but have been looking for some good process and project development software as well that can compliment. So far I am loving inShort. More to come as I use it, but I’m liking it thus far!!

The ability to put your ideas in 3D is great. I am puzzled over why it can export into OPML but not import it as well. It would also be great if it could export into PowerPoint or Keynote.

This is the perfect app for project planning. Like others I have used omnigraffle for diagramming out future projects but the layers in this app as well as the ability to actually execute(basically a to do for projects in the diagram itself ) is awesome.

Like many here, I use software tools to try and stay on top of the many tasks and projects that come in my door. Recently, I had a project that had a lot of moving parts - multiple stakeholders, critcal milestones, and tricky timing that made my head hurt. I tried one piece of software and then the next. My solution was a bunch of sticky notes on my whiteboard that showed the path. Sadly, the notes on my board can’t reflect the multiple iterations of this project type and don’t let me drill down to the level of detail needed by each of the players. Enter inShort. My boss needs the top level showing the 5000-foot level details. My collegeues need to drill down on each of those steps to get to the detail that will result in a positive outcome for each step. That is the power of inShort. Show the level of detail needed by the person you are meeting with.

I wasn’t sure about purchasing this, however, after playing around with it for a while, I really love it. I’ve also used tools like MindManager, MS Project, etc., and inShort is completely different and frankly easier to use.. I really like the drill down feature that allows you to add unlimited details to breakdown tasks. I’m not a PM, however, need an easy to use tool to manage simple and somewhat complete projects. Its always the details that matter and inShort seems to have an easy way to keep track of the details and also to easily make course corrections. I’m looking forward to seeing how I can integrate what I’m doing on my MacBook with use on my iPad and iPhone. Any chance that these guys are working on something that also integrates with Apple Watch???

Very Interesting Spin on Process Planning & Organization

This is worth a spin, just for the new perspective on process planning and information organization.

I manage a variety of projects, some that last a few days and others that last months. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between paper planners, Excel, Outlook to-do lists, to-do apps like Pagico, tagged note-taking tools like Evernote, and mind maps like Simplemind (great for brainstorming and visualizing all the ongoing things, but not great for project planning). But I never have had a good way to really get an overview on where I am at any given moment, or keep track of the myriad detailed stuff in one place… until now. After reading some good reviews of InShort online, I decided to take the plunge and buy this app. It’s unlike any tool I’ve used before, and I think it’s going to be the thing I’ve been needing all this time. I’ve made it through the very helpful tutorial (highly recommended as a starting point) and I’m going to spend the day setting up my assorted projects. I see this as a 3D tool for seeing your workload from all angles— you can easily visualize at a macro level all the stuff you have to do in either flowchart style, hierarchy style, or gantt chart style, or you can zoom in and see the intricate details of each piece. And unlike a mind mapping tool, this gives you a more linear way to plot out and track the course of a project from beginning to end, and tick off tasks as they are complete. I love that there’s a way to keep up with stuff that you’re waiting on from someone else. With other tools, it’s easy to let a task fall in the cracks once it’s off your plate and onto someone else’s. This makes those types of “waiting on” tasks much easier to follow up on. Although I haven’t heavily used it yet, I am giving this app 5 stars right off the bat for its vision, which is unique in this marketplace, and is ideally suited to visual thinkers and planners like me. I’m sure I’ll run into things that could be improved, but I’m so grateful to have stumbled on this gem of an app.

I am just starting with the first project. Easy layout but there is a learning curve. The fact that PDF can be generated is a big plus for sharing with teams in a format that can be shared.

IM24601 · 10 years ago

New to the app, but so far after only 1 day, it looks really good. Has all the elements I need. A bit of a learning curve for sure, but it seems intuitive. I’ll be writing more!

inShort is brilliant, helpful, and useful. It has the magical and rare quality found in software that rises above the already honorable level of being an efficacious tool: it returns as much to you as you put into using it well. There is — mentioned by other reviewers — a non-trivial learning curve. A not-insignificant part of its brilliance is that it forces the user into thinking carefully, specifically, and exactingly about _process_. Do you value finding efficency in work? Make an inShort diagram, execute the diagram, and then improve the diagram. Is there _anything you do_ that does not produce the result you think it will? Diagramming it well in inShort will better inform you than anything else I know. I am an artist. I am involved in many processes, both with physical material (colored mud) and virtual material (information). inShort has helped me: - document how I do what I do - rationalize what I do - refine the processes I use - create teaching diagrams - undertake complex projects involving thousands of steps across multiple computer programs inShort is — IME — the best work-analysis tool available. I found it weird, arcane, intransigent — but in the best way possible. It teaches me how to think about process. The developer responds to issues and suggestions. inShort is, to me, worth much more than it costs. I not only recommend it highly, I thank and admire the devoloper for his/her work.

Personally, I am a beginner in a world of diagramming with a lot of things that I need to learn about inShort and the theory behind it to become a master of processes, and previously I did not own any diagramming or planning software, however what immediately captured my interest and enthused me to choose this particular app—is the quality and warmth of craftsmanship, which shines through the app. It is important to love what you do and that radiant feeling you get from the app does contribute to the whole process. It feals great to use great tools! Okay, perhaps, this tiny review on the aura surrounding inShort is not what you might like to read about the app that deals with things that are concrete—tasks, processes, projects, schedules, ... but anyway. Thanks for the great app!

Enjoying it so far.

Downloaded this for Gantt charts, and found a whole lot more!

@handythinks · 10 years ago

This is an excellent application for project management, and one of the best functional apps I have seen for OSX (and its iOS counterpart). It goes beyond the classic Gantt charts by allowing flow (process) diagrams and report generation. Process diagrams mean that the user can depict every step of a process (not always obvious at first look) then cast the steps as a Gantt diagram - and revise to deal with delays etc. The depiction of project entities using business process managemnet notation (BPMN) means the process diagrams will be similar to but much more functional than what e.g. Visio produces. Sub-processes, tasks, and sub-tasks can be edited as well as resources. The managemet theory inShort is based on, as well as the somehow different user interface (from e.g. microsoft project or omniplan) means the user should expect a bit of a learning curve - proper reading of the user guide is a must. I use omnifocus, and it would be great if a "plug-in” interfaces inShort to omnifocus to allow more flexibility for day-to-day use.
